Exhibition Preface

This exhibition is the third one of the series exhibition “The power of attention—Chinese young artists ink painting exhibition” held by the magazine <Oriental Art · Chinese painting>. As the organizer of this exhibition, <Oriental Art  · Chinese painting> will gather 44 artists that the magazine has been recommending and paying close attention to during the last decade, try to extend their artistic orbits from the plane propaganda on the magazine to a stereo display through the exhibition. This exhibition aims at in-depth profiling the internal world of artists as well as reproducing their current artistic status, and seeking relevance among these artists to reflect the current situation of Chinese ink painting.

The artists participating in this exhibition include: Yi Rui, Yu Yue, Zhang Tianmu, Zeng Jianyong, Yuan Yao, Du Xiaotong, Ding Xiaozhen, Cao Dunfu, Dang Zhen, Qin Xiuping, Tan Jun, Shi Rongqiang, Shen Qin, Jia Qiuyu, Zhou Xue, Wang Muyu, Li Xuesong, Wang Hao, Liu Xiaojing, Hang Chunhui, Li Geye, Hao Shiming, Huang Huan, Xu Jiacun, Wang Yu, Li Jun, Wang Jinfeng, Yan Hairong, Zhu Zhengming, Ma Zhaolin, Sun Hao, Li Na, Li Tiansuo, Li Tingting, Wang Mengsha, Huang Hongtao, Chen Zifeng, Yan Xicong, Li Junyi, Shan Dingkai, Tan fei, Yue Xiaofei, Yao Hao, Ye Lucheng (sorted by age), they are the hard core of contemporary ink painting artists. Traditional drawing languages, skills and schemas are not enough for them to express their inner aspirations anymore. Almost everyone of them had accepted classical training from academy, they have their own understanding of East and West paintings, the esthetic system and difference of culture between the East and West. They are not too rigid about the importance of reining brush and ink, also they do not stick to the uniqueness of material, and try to break the limits and bonds of traditional brushstroke techniques. Learning the advantages from western world, and combing them with local ink painting context diversifies the expressions, skills and patterns of ink painting. They also focus on their unique self-expression, using a certain point as an entry to deep elaborate their feelings. The expression is private yet sincere. With materials as the carrier, combining the drawing language of their own, the artists not only convey their mood and emotion, but also their concerns about the problems of nature, society and humanity. They keep exploring the possibilities of ink painting, connecting their works with their intuitions and feelings.

The works and their feelings behind the work will be on display during the exhibition, hopefully the diverse expressions and angles will bring new inspirations to visitors. As the spectator, <Oriental Art · Chinese painting > is lucky to witness the growth of these 44 artists. The way of pursuing art is long and endless, “I see no ending, yet high and low I’ll search with my will unbending”.
