Exhibition Preface

On December 23, 2025, the exhibition "Contours of the unseen: Narrative space and spiritual paths of art in the age of digital intelligence" opened on the second floor of Building 1 at Today Art Museum. Organized by the Chinese National Academy of Arts and co-hosted by its National Research Center for Contemporary Art and Today Art Museum, the exhibition aims to move beyond superficial discussions of technology in an age increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and generative tools. Instead, it delves into how art can preserve the richness of experience, the depth of time, and the independence of spiritual will amid the flood of algorithms and data.

The exhibition brings together the creations and practices of ten artists—Bai Xiaomo, Fan Bo, Fei Jun, Luo Xiao, Miao Xiaochun, Tan Ping, Wang Xiao, Wu Ziyang, Yin Xiuzhen, and Zhi Min. Presenting their work through "data archives" rather than mere display, it reveals their respective paths of reflection and methodologies in response to the digital-intelligent era.

This exhibition adopts a display format that combines artworks with data archives. Through the creative practices of ten artists, it systematically presents active explorations in artistic media forms, creative methodologies, and expressive structures within the digital-intelligent environment. Grounded in the developmental context of the digital-intelligent era, it pays close attention to the new conditions and opportunities that technological advancement brings to contemporary art practice.

Moving beyond merely showcasing tools or refreshing sensory experience, the exhibition consistently interrogates "narrative space" and "spiritual direction," thereby repositioning artistic creation at the core of cultural epistemology and social imagination. This exhibition does not attempt to provide definitive answers about the digital-intelligent era. Instead, through the artists' methods and practices, it aims to offer viewers possibilities for renewed perception, judgment, and reflection.
