Exhibition Preface
Huang Junhui, a contemporary artist, held his exhibition named Possibility of Landscape in Shijiazhuang in 2015. Part of the works in the exhibition will be displayed again with his latest works in Beijing this May. Meanwhile, his collection Wall of Memory published by Hebei Fine Arts Press will be released for the first.
Huang’s works are featured by social criticism from a contemporary perspective. He is an ideational artist. His creations in the exhibition, mainly appliance, videos and paintings, all contain empty spiritual figures, as if weeping or chanting in a heroic but mournful way of the history of Yan and Zhao (Hebei was called Yan and Zhao Kingdoms in ancient times). Wall of Memory is composed by creations using various kinds of materials. The corroding spots left by Nature as time passes by and the graffiti left by man interweave into arias, and there is always notes accord with the viewer’s psychological cipher. Huang Junhui has always trying to employ more contemporary media and manifestations to magnify his humanitarian concern of Shimen County and to fully express his artistic prospect. After graduating from School of Art, his artistic practices mainly focus on oil painting. We can see his artistic skills and humanity qualities from his unbridled, full colored paintings with perfect ideas and techniques. The works named Supreme and Charm of Sequence, a combination of discarded weaving shuttles and glassware for chemical experiment, are extraordinary. However, framed by the thinking pattern of easel painting, the artist often tiles the elements horizontally. From the pictures taken from the exhibition, we can try to reproduce the appliance in our mind: the elements of the appliances horizontally pile up and bulge outward. The visual impact is released explosively and it is not difficult for one to imagine the space for divergent thinking and the magnitude of launch. The artist may be constrained by the space of the exhibition and thus intended to leave some space to provoke the viewer’s imagination.
