As the miniature of time, architecture records the developing process of the society; as the Witness to the Time, ancient bricks in Wuhu City states the silent passage of time.

Memories remain in the Qing Dynasty bricks broke by the process of urbanization according to Ying Tianqi - memory of architecture, moreover memories of the nation and era. Urbanization brought about too many changes in few decades. Day after nights, the ancient city has been buried in peoples’ memory and gradually turned to ruins in demolition process. The bricks that was delicately carved and engraved now are scattered all around, sighing to change of eras, fragile and helpless. Such a fragility and helplessness touches Ying Tianqi’s sensitive artistic mind and heart.

From the year 2012, Ying Tianqi started series of artistic events and creation and even brought them far away to Venice, Italy. He dig out the “Cremains” of architecture, as an alarm to the fast-running world not to forget the past and the spirit. Could the economic boom on appearance really take up the place of remains of traditional culture? As a nation, we have forgot and lost too much while chasing forward in such a hurry, while the most beautiful new world lays silently in the local culture accumulated for thousands of years. The 10-thousand people brick-picking event  Regenerate the Remains brought a brighter future to revival the ancient city, gathering all citizens come into the reconstruction of Wuhu.

We sincerely hope a recall to the history and memory that has been ignored and covered  for too long through this exhibition.
