Exhibition Preface

Jiang Huan was born in Beijing in 1964 and he graduated from the Fine Art Department at Capital Normal University in 1989. He is a professional artist currently living in Beijing. In Jiang Huan’s paintings, he relies on realist methods, but he uses rubbings to blur and obscure the concepts of figuration and abstraction. Instead, he depicts the emotions behind the forms. These forms are not complex; what the eyes see is what the heart accepts. Jiang Huan’s paintings are permeated with eroticism. He lovingly expresses a source of vitality, and he does not refuse to express lust’s full pleasures. Through those magical limbs, we can appreciate how close eroticism is to freedom. In these paintings, Jiang constantly tightens his observational lens, enlarging parts of portraits and limbs, the subjects of his meticulous touch. The subtle relationships between light and shade in these pale colors strengthen the relationship between private living spaces and emotions for individuals. In the spiritual dimension, Jiang Huan pursues pure existence, in order to obtain a contemporary art style with his own imprint. He says, “Eroticism on the outside, love on the inside. Through these tributes, I can discover their essence and commune with nature.”
