Exhibition Preface

Today’s human society has entered a new development track. New knowledge are accumulated and disseminated at an unimaginable speed, the endless stream of new things is overwhelming. The rapid evolution of ChatGPT has led thousands of experts to jointly call for the suspension of AI development, the reason is that advanced AI may mean profound changes on earth, and we should dedicate the corresponding considerations, planning it first. The explosive development of science and technology has changed our lives rapidly, but the accompanying complexity has also put the entire society in a panic. The only way to deal with unpredictability is to innovate. China has promoted innovation as the“primary engine”, the United States has also promoted innovation as“ the key to the future. ”When innovation becomes consensus, how to achieve it becomes the key.

Innovators think differently. As Steve Jobs said, they are able to“think differently”only because they can connect things that haven't been connected yet. Einstein called creative thinking“combinatorial play”and considered it “the essential characteristic of constructive thinking”. Connection, which refers to the brain’s attempt to integrate and make understand what it sees and hears in multiple dimensions. It is easy to produce innovative breakthroughs when multiple disciplines and fields intersect.

Now, we vaguely see the dawn of a return to the fusion of science and art. European Top scientific laboratories such as European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) are keen to offer residency programs for artists. Various interdisciplinary departments have been brewing in the world’s leading higher education and research institutions, artists and scientists work side by side to explore new forms of intelligence.

In this exhibition we have assembled more than 100 art works of 12 pioneer cross-border explorers, hope brings fresh inspiration into a new palace where science and art blend. They are extremely innovative“multi-hyphenates”, no matter how different backgrounds, all have wild imagination, high aesthetic taste, rigorous scientific practical experience, different perspectives of philosophical thinking, and absolute enthusiasm for the integration of science and art. We share the practical experience of these pioneers in the field of innovation, and try to find some rules in the chaotic field of innovative thinking.

The real world is the world of complete experience, not the world of concepts mechanically fragmented by various disciplines. Only by breaking through the narrow barriers of the so-called“disciplines”can the bounded imagination be free. Nine-storied terrace must be built upon the base, we hope that this exhibition may open a new horizon for the public. In the future development, we are also committed to fostering dialogue and communication between scientists, artists and other creative forces, unite creative and responsible individuals and institutions in various fields to build a harmonious development consensus.
