The significance of Longmen lies in questioning the present as well as dating back the past.

As a well-known oil painting artist living in Shanghai, Li Xiaocheng develops a broad global outlook meanwhile has his deep domestic concerns. Originally from Gan Su Province, his decades of art pursue from the west to the east correspondingly matches the spatial transition from the Mo Kao Grottoes to Yun Gang Grottoes then to Longmen Grottoes. With a sympathetic visage, Li has a profound feeling that it is his responsibility to recurrence the past glory of the Longmen Grottoes,in response to its existence and spiritual significance in history. 

What Li Xiaocheng trying to paint is the impression from the perspective of today instead of its appearance of yesterday. It is indeed the story behind generations instead of a glance in time.

Painting Longmen draws reflection for the present era when Chinese society transforms.The artistic discuss and spread on the religious value system behind Longmen would benefit public construction of the society.The significance explore of Longmen from the perspective of today requires artistic activities.
