The term“art brut”was created by the famous modern artist Jean Dubuffet with his 40 years’research, describing art created outside the tradition of fine art and culture, with extraordinary spontaneity and creativity. According to Dubuffet’s definition, art brut could be a draft, a color painting, an embroidery, a plastic handmade, and a tiny sculpture, to name just a few.
This exhibition gathers the works of those whom Dubuffet called unrecognized in the professional art world. A variety could be found in the artists list: a child still at school, a housewife, a retired workman who does not loose the ability to pursue Beauty…They are not professional painters, however, when they pick up the painting brush occasionally, with their intuition, innocence, unadornment, and imagination, they create such moving beauty of art!
A great number of masterpieces in eastern and western art history bear the characteristics of children’s drawings, obtaining an unadorned, deformed, and original flavor. A possible link might be set there between children’s drawings and those great masters’paintings. This exhibition hopes, through those non-professional artists’works, to recall our lost art dreams and the true joy in painting.
