Wang Xinfu and on-site Sketching/Creation

       What is interesting about WangXinfu's painting is that he regards sketching as painting creation, which method should be called sketching/creation and seems simple but actually contains complex and changeable practicality. In the painter's opinion, sketching and creation are inseparable, but in an adhesive state, or even dynamic, which is there is creation in sketching and sketching in creation. This is the reason why his painting has gone through changes. The painter can fully grasp the scale of expression, which is to comply with the whole of objects observed and changes of details and express them timely, and to give clear personal will to the picture with dynamic colors, among which is permeated with personal emotional fluctuations. Apparently, he does not draw with the set program, but discern and feel the nature with his mind, to integrate into nature and express nature, so as to improvise personal mental catharsis, which is the unpredictable and uncertain catharsis similar to happening art. He does not only integrate movement of the body with dynamic strokes and textures of the paint, but also connects the self with the object, place, time, space, climate, grass and trees, land, river, rain and snow.

Obviously, painting is the bond between personal feelings and the real world, which depends on the style and language of painting. Wang Xinfu is deeply aware that no art today refuses to refer to historical heritage. Thus, there is both elegance of Impressionism and wildness of Expressionism, as well as freedom of traditional calligraphy and rhythm of music in his sketching/creation landscapes. The dense picture with shuttling lines and interwoven colors present the painter's insight, comprehension and expression of nature. Having no specific image, his picture seems to create a certain obscure state, because he intends to transform concreteness and abstraction, expression and poetry into a kind of thick, surging, tumbling and light and shadow effect, which gives people endless aftertaste. He views the appeal of form as transformation and sublimation of the painter's subjective views on realistic landscape, which embodies the willpower of his own character and shows the flowing melody, wild splintering and superimposed  thickness in the form.

Generally speaking, sketching should follow the optical principle and perspective law of expressing objects, which not only conforms to the warmth and coldness and changes of color and light of the object, but also conforms to the science. However, different from other people's realistic painting, Wang Xinfu tries to get rid of these constraint rules by using the color boldly and subjectively   according to his own understanding, which often blends pure color with mixed color or dirty color fearlessly to let the color expression conform to its own feelings and needs of forms, which is a personal mental intervention and transformation of the objective world. In addition to using large strokes, he even daringly takes the paint tube and squeezes it directly on the picture when expressing lines, deliberately emphasizing the texture of painting. This kind of thick color is not only a formal symbol, but also an emotional form. It is based on this tone that he establishes his linguistic features in colors full of happiness with order in chaos and beauty in order.

Facing the constant changing new technologies and the world constantly changing human cognition, Wang Xinfu does not blindly follow the trend, but persists in his own belief by learning from his teacher who studied in France before, Mr. Li Youxing to focus on observing objects and emphasizing subjective expression, which is to transform objects into simple decorative color expression. Thus, Wang Xinfu adheres to the principle of manual expression of landscape, specifically speaking, he regards sketching as equal to creation, because this process has accumulated personal perception, judgment, emotion and personality. This "untimely" attitude made him turn to the preference for traditional modernism and try to dig new energy from historical accumulation. Meanwhile, he does not get deeply bogged down in the rigid school painting, but is engaged in painting with new method and idea, stare attentively and discover inner connection between the charm of nature and personal spirit, emphasize exquisiteness of personal perception of the real nature to subjectively recreate the fable rich in feeling, melody, rhythm of the lively nature with brushwork intertwined with expressiveness and abstractness. This is the painter's personal presence, perception and play in the scene of nature, which is also the key to the difference between creating in nature and in the studio.
        Expressive methods of Wang Xinfu's painting are flexible with various style. His landscape is not objective sketching, but let creation rely on sketching, sketching is played subjectively, and is transformed into the result of creation, soaked with personal painting path: the texture highlighted by material nature of  superimposed color; Lines and colors in the picture concentrate and weaken the object expressed. The overall form of the picture and momentum of the calligraphy are integrated, while the adhesive coverage of color and lines forms an inseparable state -- not only reflected in play and transformation of aesthetics of nature and momentum of the book by the artist, but also reflected in the generation and construction of pure form. Such painting style is difficult to be defined by stylizing, and the formation of its obscure state is exactly the result of  breaking through restrictions and freedom by the painter. Specifically, although his paintings deviate from specific objects and even dilute their attributes, its pursuit of purity and simplicity has become a formal goal -- showing not only freedom from rules and regulations, but also freedom of expression and dynamic passion. In Wang Xinfus view, all objects in nature can finally be expressed in a concise and beautiful form, and its microscopic beauty is the most perceptible beauty in the world. This is exactly why he regards painting color as the happiest thing in his sketching/creation, because the generation of color contains expression of personal passion, expression of personal emotion, and presentation of the fluctuation of personal emotion.

 Wang Xinfu's paintings have formed their own logic of painting language in the conflict between lines of writing and the primary colors which are constantly covered -- not only making colors and lines in the entangled state of rationality and sensibility, but also making the painting return to the original state. This kind method of uncertainty is embodied in the form tension between happening and expansion, control and freedom. The texture of interwoven colors and flowing lines in his works make people feel the painter's drawing posture, and construct a new visual order in the extrusion of red, yellow, blue and green and the moving of brush strokes. Such a form can open the life and spirit contained under the surface of color; There is a certain color order in passion; The simmering consciousness of life is bursting in rational thinking. The pure color brightness, or winding and changing lines, continuous coverage and interlace of points and lines is shown in Wang Xinfu's paintings, no matter it is a super large or a small painting, demonstrating full momentum. He seems to imbue his personality in endless entanglement between points and lines, but it is the repeated entanglement between points and lines that sublimates his spiritual form. Wang Xinfu rejects the correspondence of sketching and attaches great importance to injecting personal emotion, subjectivity and expressiveness into the painting, and makes the picture accumulate into thick and embossed material nature and its flowing lines intersected in the painting shows the general state of momentumof the calligraphy. Meanwhile, its multicolored tone also symbolizes the romance and tenderness of life. Certainly, in a series of painting works, he skillfully masters the relationship between the whole and the part, and tries his best to let color highlight the independence, which is color is itself, the texture and its significance of the color. In his creation, the painter shows the time dimension and body posture, and deals concreteness and abstraction with mediocrity to form a symbol full of life. Wang Xinfu consciously makes the characteristics of calligraphy conform to the expression of form, and makes lines and strokes permeate each other between visibly and invisibly. The form does not have specific referential significance, but emphasizes the beauty of strokes and colors brought by personal operation. Driven by this way, the free brushwork is attributed to the abundant whole, so as to get rid of rules or constraints of "painting", construct order in disorder and style in the law of unruliness. This is exactly the new painting meaning of form to form and color to color emphasized by Xang Xnfu -- the grammar of personal painting.
