“In the East” Image New Media Work Exhibition

Exhibition Preface

The image and the freehand brushwork contain the important thought of Chinese aesthetics, which is reflected in different art categories to varying degrees. With the various influence of modernity, the aesthetic thought represented by the image and freehand brushwork is gradually classified into the field of plastic arts, which is defined by the comparison with the embodiment and realism of western plastic arts, and becomes the characteristic of eastern aesthetics.

 

The aesthetic spirit represented by image and the freehand brushwork is not limited to plastic arts. Historically, there are both images and freehand brushwork in verses, ditties, odes and songs; from the present situation, there are also images and freehand brushwork in photography, film, drama and other art forms. Because of this, the exhibition exhibits a variety of works of art forms, such as the painting, sculpture, installation, image, and interactive new media etc. At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, the dance is introduced to examine the breadth of Chinese aesthetic spirit and the fit of contemporary art.

 

The traditional one is unbounded, the modern one is demarcated, and the contemporary one crosses the boundary. Traditional art advocates common origins of calligraphy and painting and painting in the poem. Different kinds of art can show the same artistic spirit. The modern art advocates categorization. The art of different categories shows different artistic spirit. The contemporary art advocates cross-border integration. Boundary crossing is not the original unity, but the higher level of unity after the second division. This higher level of unity is the embodiment of the new eastern spirit.

 

The exhibition is divided into two parts, which are held successively in Today Art Museum and the Art Museum of Beijing Film Academy. In a sense, film is most closely related to modern art. There is no traditional film but only modern film. The mutual inspiration between film and modern art will promote the development and prosperity of both and the development and prosperity of contemporary oriental culture.
