Liu Kun: Blues, Big Blue opened on April 25, 2026, at Today Art Museum Building No.3. Curated by Yan Yan, Executive Director of Today Art Museum, the exhibition brings together two major bodies of work by the artist: Blues, Big Blue and Landscape. The exhibition runs through May 24.
In the view of curator Yan Yan, Liu Kun’s silence—within a time that constantly demands production and statements from artists—has become a rare form of self-regulated rhythm. Rather than an explosive declaration, the exhibition unfolds as a slow process of condensation, a quiet point of release.
As a culmination of years of reflection, Liu Kun resists making judgments based on incomplete seeing. Such restraint may seem out of step today, yet it is precisely what makes it meaningful. His work suggests that the value of art lies not in providing answers, but in making questions visible.
His paintings neither shout nor whisper. They simply hang in stillness, like a curtain of water that never fully dries, covering the surface of a drifting world.
Between memory and forgetting, between one blue and another—this is where we find ourselves: between certainty and uncertainty.
