The 4th China Forum for Art Installations & Art Exhibition opened on April 24, 2026, at Today Art Museum Building No,1. Co-organized by Today Art Museum and the Organizing Committee of the China International Forum for Art Installations, the exhibition runs through May 31, 2026.

The forum and exhibition are academically chaired by Yan Yan, Executive Director of Today Art Museum, and jointly curated by Ma De and Fang Er. Bringing together 22 Chinese contemporary installation artists, the project presents a range of cutting-edge practices, including seven newly commissioned large-scale installations created specifically for this edition.

Since its inception in 2013, the question “What is installation?” has remained the central thread of FAI, evolving into one of the most sustained and academically rigorous platforms in the field of installation art in China. This edition transforms the museum’s vertical architecture—spanning floors 2 to 4—into a layered curatorial framework: natural materials on the second floor, industrial readymades on the third, and technology and machinery on the fourth, examining the operative boundaries of installation as an artistic language in the contemporary context.

Building on the theoretical foundations established in previous editions—ranging from the distinctions between “anti-aesthetics” and “non-aesthetics,” to the elevation of the readymade as medium, and the role of installation in public negotiation—this iteration extends these inquiries into spatial and practical dimensions. With a characteristically austere stance, the exhibition confronts the conditions of our time, resisting the reduction of art to market rhetoric or technological annotation. Instead, it seeks to affirm installation as a “slow medium” through collective resonance, and to establish a renewed discursive position for Chinese installation art within an international context.
