Exhibition Preface

Interwoven Horizons: The 13th “From Lusanne to Beijing” International Fiber Art Biennale Exhibition

Initiated by the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University and sustained over 25 years, "From Lausanne to Beijing" International Fiberart Biennale has been widely recognized as a leading academic benchmark in the global field of fiber art. Known for its rigorous selection process and open academic ecology, the biennale has long attracted artists, scholars, and designers from six continents, fostering dialogue among craft traditions, material science, digital technology, and social issues, while continually renewing the discipline’s academic lineage and methodologies. Over the years, through touring exhibitions and cross-disciplinary collaborations, the biennale has integrated contemporary fiber art into the global cultural network, establishing a stable and enduring international influence.

Under the theme "Interwoven Horizons," this edition of the biennale was announced globally in May 2025 and received submissions from 53 countries and regions. The exhibition will be held simultaneously at the Tsinghua University Art Museum, Beijing Inge Hard Stone Art Museum, and Today Art Museum.

The exhibition aims to explore how "perception" is being redefined and "creation" reimagined in an age of algorithmically reshaped senses and converging cultural pluralities. Under the theme "Interwoven Horizons," the 13th "From Lausanne to Beijing" International Fiber art Biennale focuses on the intricate interrelations between humanity and the environment in a future-oriented world.

The Today Art Museum exhibition area transforms fiber into a medium of time and space, extending the exhibition into ecological perspectives and ethical considerations. Nearly 50 works are on display, each serving as a miniature model of the universe, condensing intangible time and tangible space within the temporal and spatial order of fiber.
