【Today Culture Salon】Plants Ornamenting Waste - for Their Original Dignity

Human beings have animal instincts, which consist of the natural desire for freedom, making us more inclined toward nature. Yet today’s society is so removed from nature that our daily lives have become stifled, unnatural. By taking responsibility for the cultivation of plants, we not only satisfy our primal urges, but demonstrate our unique human culture at the same time.

Horticulture is defined as “the branch of agriculture that deals with the art, science, technology and business of plant cultivation”. Li Ye, a professional horticulturist, believes that caring for natural landscapes is the easiest and highest form of environmental respect. Li Ye pays tribute to nature and his basic instincts by trying to understand and restore the natural environment. A simple piece of a plant, stone or wood can represent nature’s sublimity, which is what Li Ye consistently aims to convey in his work.

In the upcoming presentation, Li Ye will tell us how one can connect their life with nature through creative process of plant cultivation. People do not necessarily need to buy a flower pot or soil; instead Li Ye demonstrates how seemingly useless waste objects can actually be transformed by the horticulturist -- a cup, a bowl, a wooden stake, and even a pair of shoes can take on a new purpose while contributing to new life in a different field, all the while enabling human being to incorporate plants more into daily life.

Nature is an eternal state, therefore, following natural laws is the only way to obtain the awesome power of nature.
