Group of Xieyi is a group of my doctoral and graduate students, some of them are still studying, and some have already graduated, we come together for art, that’s fate. The reason we called ourselves Group of Xieyi is mostly because we all respect the Xieyi spirit of Chinese traditional painting, we all hold a common realization that it is a misunderstanding that Chinese traditional painting being divided into exquisite form and extensive form from the production level that one is "meticulous brushwork" and the other is "Xieyi", Chinese traditional painting should be Xieyi, and that is the artistic expression of Chinese traditional painting, "meticulous" and "Xie" can be blended together, division is not proper.

We advocate artistic personality but not blind obedience and imitation in our daily teaching process, encouraging students in exploring creative expression in Xieyi language of Chinese traditional painting actively base on pursuing domestic and foreign traditional classics. Some of my students have cut a brilliant figure, others in a good start showing their potential in becoming brilliant; although they are not maturity in the creation, they have their own pursuit and they are making tireless efforts.

Nanjing Liuchen Gallery has been committed to young artists’ promotion for a long time, particularly pay close attention to Group of Xieyi and have been trying to support us. They have organized three Group of Xieyi exhibitions since 2012. The tour exhibition have been hold in Taipei Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall, Gallery of Nanjing University of the arts, Cangzhou art museum, Dalian art museum, Changzhou LIU Haisu Art Museum and the Contemporary Art Center of Nantong etc., also with a series of academic promotion activities. People start pay more and more attention to Group of Xieyi and their encouragements have been significantly promote the students’ understanding and improve the level of creation.

"Group of Xieyi - Academic Invitation Exhibition at Today Art Museum" is our first collective appearance in Beijing, art works exhibited here are all created in recent years, showing more overall our thinking and creative exploration status. We sincerely hope to hear criticisms from various aspects through this exhibition that will prompt us to continue to improve in the future creation.
