Exhibition Preface

Liu Shuishi was born in 1962, graduated from Xi’an Academy of Fine Art. Liu is an artist with an independent mind, who extends his career with purified sensibility that based on deeply rationality.

As the theme of this exhibition Thinking As Art Media  indicates, thought and idea are the core value of Liu Shuishi’s art. “ Art is only being-in-itself. Artworks and art forms keep shinning throughout the evolution of idea. However, art itself exists beyond any personal mind.”

From the pre-Qin period to contemporary and from Socrates to Sartre, art has  always been a carrier and media of idea or concept. The works shown on this exhibition are the reflection of Liu Shuishi ’s life-long inquiry and exploration upon the history of philosophy and art. Artist’s rich exhibition experience varies from Baptist University of Hong Kong to Frankfurt and to New York, and this exhibition held in Today Art Museum could be a milestone of Liu Shuishi’s  conceptual contemporary artistic creation.

2012 The work 090816060 was collected by Chinese Association of Foreign Affairs

2012 Limited print copies of the works Existence、Transcend 、 The Birth of Sculpture were selected by Chinese Association of Foreign Affairs as gift for foreign politicians and business leaders.

2014 The work Existence were collected by former State Secretary of USA，Mr Henry Kissinger who speaks highly of it.
