Exhibition Preface

Wang Jieyin’s painting language isn’t actually in a novel style. The picture structure with the core of modern structural principle, the visual interests being presented through combining lines and strokes without modification and painting texture formed by various casual touches, as well as the “image form” between concretization and abstraction, are almost the perfect examples of long-standing “Chinese expressionism”. However, unlike the “Chinese expressionism” paintings with the ultimate goal of perfect language form, his works are not only distributed by a charming quality but also burst out the specific pure and romantic life passion of the people of his generation. It is because of these characteristics that his artistic works glow with intelligence of the real outstanding works.

Wang Jieyin always insists on the “Natural” concept of art. In his works, the “Nature” is the “Natural” expression of keen visual form and romantic life passion above all things, which in fact is the “true color” of the artists of his generation. Another implication of “Nature” is the “natural” evolution of his pure life passion. The free transformation of “favorite form” is in fact the self tempering and sublimation of the artist’s simple life passion during its day-by-day deep touching with the noisy world.

In his later years, Shi Tao once wrote a poem on painting, and he used plain language, usual image, simple life emotion and unique tone to show a pure and being-towards-death life passion. This is the reason why Wang Jieyin’s “favorite form” was impressive.
The comprehensive doubts about “Chinese contemporary art” in recent years, in fact, demonstrates that the Chinese art will be facing profound changes: if the key word of Chinese art has been “contemporary” since the end of 1970s, the core word from now on will be “China”- from “Chinese context”, “Chinese faces”, “Chinese symbol” towards the deeper spiritual foundation of China, and more unique cultural character- a new context which needs people to constantly have a purer heart and maintain the feeling of plain and natural culture. In such art context, Wang Jieyin casts the pure visual language, the profound traditional connotation and the natural life experience into an art with verdant and bright life color, which is bound to show their unique value.
