What’s Chinese contemporary art? It’s very difficult to identity at the very beginning of Chinese contemporary art. But that as it may, it is very energetic, so what we should and must do now is having a deep sight and guide to the trend of development.

In 2006, Today Art Museum held National (1st) Works Show of Graduates from Academy of Fine Art for knowing what is happening or what will happen in contemporary art circle. Most of participants are youth; they are all very professional and know the tradition and modern social culture well, therefore, they are the active participants and pioneer of contemporary art. It is very easy to find the trail of great change in social ideology and culture concept from their works, they are creating “new culture” belonging to them now and we believe that they will be the represents and the pioneer of Chinese contemporary art.

Tang Shi and Zhou Song are no doubt very excellent among youth artist. They were presented gold and bronze prize in National (1st) Works Show of Graduates from Academy of Fine Art and they drew good comments from most of judges because of their good drawing skills and special styles.

Tang Shi was born in 80s of 20th century; his works are very sober comparing to other post-80s artists. His works present daily life by narration with stage effects, which show his different thoughts to the world in a cold humorous way. He shows a real world by an extreme sensible way and audience can fell his carefulness as well as his separation to the word from the picture composition and divine angle. His allegorical works can make audience think some philosophy theme, such as the essence of nature and life and forget space and time.

Sup realism is his style which utilizes the traditional technique of dissection and realism and unique technique of gun, flowers or other things, even bloody fish organs to express his anguish and morose. His works convey the compassion humanism through the contradictory of beauty and brutality which are the contemporary scholars’ characters. Of couse, his works is not simply form and irritation, they are the distillation of degeneration of the world even the creation experience itself is a part of his works, and all of these combine a seamless entirety.

How time flies, it is 2007 now, National (2nd) Works Show of Graduates from Academy of Fine Art is preparing now. What Today Art Museum seeks for is finding out and turning out young artists and push the healthy development of China contemporary art and National Works Show of Graduates from Academy of Fine Art will give the potential youth artists a good chance to realize themselves.
