With a science and engineering background while born in a family of artists, Li Yushuang can be called the Henri Rousseau in China, who creates artworks with “amateur status” while achieving a high artistic level. His work combines Chinese and Western level. He expresses his ideas from the figurative to the abstract way and then from the abstract to the imagery. He creates the “light code”system. In his mind, the universe is composed by different light waves therefore different things are derived from different frequencies and vibration of different light waves. If an artist presents the changeableness and composition of light waves, he then can express the universe and nature in a free way. Therefore, when we watch Li Yushuang’s paintings, we can clearly feel the rhythm of light by the color and line. This is actually a philosophy of hologram. It is like a bridge, leading the artist from the realm of necessity to the kingdom of freedom. The amazing part is that Li Yushuang, began with the western thinking mode, eventually returned to the context in Eastern philosophy unconsciously, as if it is the fate which ultimately combines his ink art with the Oriental philosophy. He sees things, observes the universe and has the infinite love and curiosity for nature. He explores the structure and composition of the things in a scientific way which can be called “go inside”. However, when he creates works, he also can jump out of the rational framework in an attempt to boost the overall level and grasp the object holographic ally, and then presents the artworks beyond the specific details or characterization of the overall image, which is called “inside out”. This inside and out is free between rational and emotional and it coincides with the Chinese Tao and in this way finally he emerged with the whole universe.
